Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal diseases affect the gums, bones, and other structures that support and surround teeth. The symptoms of these diseases can range from mild swelling and discomfort to severe pain and even loss of teeth.

According to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, gum disease does not usually appear until people reach their 30s and 40s, but even teenagers can develop gingivitis, and this is one of the milder forms of periodontal diseases. We specialize in family dentistry and can provide periodontal therapy services to treat everyone from children to adults.

Periodontal Therapy Services

Dental patients’ first lines of defense include regular checkups, professional cleanings and good self-care at home. Even though this should begin at a young age, it is never too late to begin taking better care of teeth. At Hearthside Dentistry, a dental office open on Fridays as well as most other days of the week, the dentist and staff can perform periodontal therapy and educate you on better ways to take care of your teeth.

This Brighton, CO practice also offers the following periodontal therapy services:

  • Deep cleaning: Dr. Braxton Haremza, or one of our registered dental hygienists, use a method called scaling to remove plaque both below and above the gum line. Root planing takes rough spots off of the roots where bacteria tends to accumulate.
  • Medication: In some cases, dental medications can control infections that contribute to gum disease. These include antiseptics and antibiotics.

Why is Good Periodontal Care and Therapy Important?

Patients who suffer from periodontal diseases can experience discomfort, pain, and even the loss of teeth. Additionally, research has linked gum disease to other health conditions. These include diabetes, heart disease, and even the delivery of pre-term babies. Staying healthy includes good dental health.
